APEGBC Mentoring Program

Mission: To help Engineers-in-Training and Geoscientists-in-Training obtain the advice, counselling and assistance required to allow them to achieve professional status.

As an APEGBC mentee progresses along the path towards professional registration as an Engineer or Geoscientist, a Mentor can provide valuable wisdom, advice and knowledge. Based on their technical, professional and personal experiences, Mentors can help Mentees work towards the goal of professional registration.

How the Mentoring Program Works

Please note that Mentors are not intended to be substitutes for the role of the supervisors. As well, Mentors are not intended to assist the Mentee with finding employment.

  • Open to employed APEGBC professional members and Mentees (EITs, GITs, Applicants) in good standing.
  • Guidelines are provided on mentoring best practices, as well as ongoing support and an annual optional training workshop.
  • Mentors are encouraged to meet regularly with their Mentee and to stay abreast of issues that arise in the Mentee’s career.
  • APEGBC’s four-year work experience requirement calls on an Mentee’s technical supervisor to introduce him/her to the components of acceptable engineering or geoscience experience .
  • The technical supervisor is to ensure that the Mentee is given ample opportunities for professional progression, including technical involvement and increasing responsibility.
  • Mentors are encouraged to become a part of the supervisor/Mentee relationship and to facilitate the relationship between the supervisor and Mentee, when required.
  • For more information, please visit our FAQ page.
