Join us for an informative presentation and follow-up Q&A session on salmon farming. Learn about the salmon lifecycle, markets, regulations and technological advancements in BC salmon farming.
Ian Roberts is a graduate of aquaculture and has been salmon farming on BC’s coast for 20 years. In 1998, Ian helped implement a partnership agreement with Marine Harvest and the Kitasoo/Xai’xais First Nation in Klemtu BC. Salmon farming is now the main economic driver in the village, employing about 55 full time band members and processing 10 million pounds of salmon annually. Ian is now the Communications Manager at Marine Harvest Canada.
In May of 2006, Mathew Clarke graduated from UBC where he studied Integrated Engineering with a focus on Marine Engineering & Naval Architecture and Project Management.
His work experience has included product development and project management for military, marine, search and rescue and aerospace industries. Mathew joined Marine Harvest in December 2011, and has since focused on improving design and construction standards, quality and maintenance of marine infrastructure for Marine Harvest Canada.
Marine Harvest produces one-fifth of the world’s farm-raised salmon at facilities in Norway, Scotland, Canada, Chile, Ireland and the Faroes. In Canada, they operate salmon farms on the coast of British Columbia and Vancouver Island, where 500 people produce 40,000 tonnes of sustainable Atlantic farm-raised salmon each year.

Thank You to all of you who have been kind enough to be a hole sponsor for our APEGBC Golf Tournament in past years.
Last years sponsorship made possible a donation of over $2,800 to the Mid-Island Chapter of Habitat for Humanity!
Once again we are asking for your sponsorship and participation for this year’s tournament which will take place at the Cowichan Golf and Country Club on June 7th, 2013. For any new companies receiving this request, we hope you will join us by sponsoring a hole and being part of this great tournament. In past years our sponsors have included Suppliers, Contractors and Consultants. Sponsors are recognized with signs at tee boxes as well as on sponsor lists.
If you are able to sponsor a hole ($125.00), you will be able to do it online or by cheque. Please make cheques payable to “APEGBC – Vancouver Island Branch” and forward to the addressees below.
The tournament will be a Texas Scramble Format so those of you who are not of professional calibre need not worry – you will fit in! We are there to socialize, have fun and enjoy the day.
Each sponsor is encouraged to enter a foursome (or fewer if you like) and the tournament is open to all APEGBC members, spouses, sponsors and member guests. Any profit made from this event will go towards a deserving charity.
Please feel free to contact the undersigned if you have any questions regarding hole sponsorship or the tournament in general.
Sincerely,
|

The Tetra Society in Nanaimo would like to make the public aware that it exists and is able to help disabled people. Tetra is a none profit organization with a purpose to recruit skilled volunteers to create assistive devices for people with disabilities. Tetra recognizes that people are not handicapped by their disabilities but by obstacles or barriers in their living environment. Volunteer engineers, design technicians and health professionals work one to one with people with disabilities to make assistive aids or modifications to their environment so that greater independence can be achieved.
The Volunteers donate their time and the only cost to the client is the material. In the event a client can not afford the materials, there is also funding available. The Nanaimo Chapter of Tetra also welcomes outside funding support to assist those clients who are in need of funding.
Please pass this information on to anyone on Vancouver Island you might think can use the services of Tetra. Your voice will help Tetra in spreading the word on its services and in turn may improve an individuals independence. The Nanaimo Chapter of Tetra is also looking to identify Volunteers for current and future projects. To contact the Nanaimo Chapter of Tetra, please contact: Jim Pickell or at 250-756-2422, Check Tetra out on the web at www.reachdisability.org/tetra
