Fourth Year Okanagan Branch/UBC Scholarship

Purpose

The Okanagan Branch of Engineers and Geoscientists BC has established this scholarship specifically to support fourth year students in Engineering and Geoscience at the Okanagan Campus of The University of British Columbia in Kelowna, BC. The applications will be adjudicated based on the applicant’s motivation for career selection, leadership and community involvement, professionalism and ethics, and academic excellence.

Value

One scholarship per year, valued at $2,500. The scholarship will be paid directly to the institution upon confirmation of registration in fourth year courses.

Eligibility

Students registered in their fourth year in the Faculty of Applied Science (Engineering), or the Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Science, with a major in Earth & Environmental Science (Geoscience), at UBC’s Okanagan Campus in Kelowna, BC. Canadian citizens, permanent residence and international students are eligible to apply.

Application Process

  • Your application form and all supporting documents must be submitted electronically by 5 PM on September 30.
    • Completed application packages will include:
      • A filled application form
      • An unofficial post-secondary transcript(s) relevant to their current program of study
      • A letter of reference
  • References may be contacted by the adjudication committee and asked to confirm their input in the student’s application package.
  • The successful applicants will be contacted by the Engineers and Geoscientists BC Scholarship Foundation.
  • The successful applicants will be asked to attend an Engineers and Geoscientists BC Okanagan Branch meetings or events to receive their award.

Selection Criteria

The applications will be evaluated and ranked based on the information provided in the application package using the following criteria:

  • Motivation for Career Selection: 30%
  • Leadership and Community Involvement: 20%
  • Professionalism and Ethics: 30%
  • Academics: 10%
  • Reference: 10%

Applicant Reference

The applicants are asked to provide one letter of reference. The reference may be contacted by the adjudication committee at any stage of the adjudication process. The references should be at arm’s length and be able to comment on the candidate's character and employment or educational history. References should either be:

  • A faculty member at the Okanagan Campus of The University of British Columbia.
  • A professional engineer or professional geoscientist.
