Professional development and life-long learning are important cornerstones in the professional practice of professional engineers and geoscientists.  Technological advances and rapid change ensure that professionals must actively participate in continuing education in order to remain competent and current in their chosen field of practice.

Member Professional Development Requirements
As self-regulating professionals, our employers, clients, the government and the public expect APEGBC members to maintain the highest level of competency.  Across all regulated professionals and throughout Canada, numerous models exist to ensure that professionals stay up to date on current practices.

Continuing Professional Development Guideline
APEGBC has a Continuing Professional Development Guideline which outlines the types of activities and the amount of professional development that practicing members should be undertaking.

CPD On-line Recording Centre
APEGBC provides a voluntary online recording module, usable by members to log their professional development activities.  This secure program allows you to record your professional development activities and generate reports based on the criteria you specify. By entering your data in the On-line Recording Centre, easy access to a record of your professional development activities will always be available to you.

Professional Development Events
APEGBC recognizes the importance of professional development in the practice of its members. To this end, the Association sponsors numerous technical, business and managerial seminars to help you reach your CPD goals. This section contains a list of upcoming seminars, webcasts and distance education opportunities.

Professional Development Resources
There are many resources available to help you in your CPD planning.  APEGBC has compiled a list of external resources to assist you in your professional development efforts.

External Professional Development Providers
There are many external professional development providers that offer technical, management, and business-related sessions to help you meet your CPD goals.

Business Resource Centre
The Business Resource Centre offers sole proprietors or small firm principals articles on different aspects of running your own business, small business-related tools and professional practice resources. APEGBC also offers a Business Resource Group to help members discuss business plans and issues with others in similar situations to exchange ideas and feedback on business issues.

Accreditation & Advertising
APEGBC does not have a formal accreditation process for external professional development providers. Determination of course value is left to the judgement of the member taking the course. There are advertising opportunities available to both technical or non-profit associations and external professional development providers.
