Sustainability is the concept of utilizing our physical, natural and social resources to meet our needs and aspirations without compromising the well-being of future generations and the global ecosystem.
Leadership in sustainability supports APEGBC’s mission “to protect the public and the environment, and create economic value through innovation and ingenuity.”
Since the early 1990s, Council has consistently supported and encouraged the activities of the Sustainability Committee, adopting the Sustainability Guidelines in 1995 and the Sustainability Management System in 2000. Additionally, a mandate for the committee has been developed and is incorporated into the Terms of Reference.
In 2007 the Sustainability Committee conducted a survey to find out what APEGBC members think about Sustainability and Engineering & Geoscience Practice in BC. The survey results are described in a detailed report: The Sustainability Pulse of the APEGBC Membership

Sustainability Primers and Resources
The Sustainability Primers aim to be a practice specific tool for applying sustainability principles to engineering and geoscience. Through case studies and analysis of best practices, the primer seeks to demonstrate sustainability in action. This page also lists resources providing information about sustainability and suggestions for implementing it in everyday practice.
Sustainability Award
The Sustainability Award was created to recognize the important contribution that engineering and geoscience make to the well being of human life and the ecosystem. Information regarding the nomination process, nominated projects, and previous Award winners can be found here.
