National Professional Practice Examination Blueprint Survey

Professional registrants are encouraged to complete the National Professional Practice Examination (NPPE) 2023 Blueprint Survey, designed to assess the knowledge of applicants for professional engineering or geoscience registration. The survey is now open and will close on October 11, 2023.

The NPPE looks into the “why is it important” and “how is it important” aspects of the knowledge of to-be licensed engineering or geoscience professionals in the areas of ethics, law, regulation, and professionalism.

Since the NPPE is a requirement to apply for a professional licence, the exam is intended to measure whether applicants are proficient enough to make day-to-day decisions in the field based on their knowledge and ability in the aforementioned areas.

Exam blueprinting is a standard approach in high stakes testing that defines the content of the exam and the weighting of the content of the exam. The process of blueprinting is crucial for ensuring the defensibility and fairness of an exam.
