Information Available to Understand No Reprisals
To assist registrants with understanding the no reprisals provision under section 103 of the PGA, the Office of the Superintendent of Professional Governance and the regulatory bodies under the PGA, including Engineers and Geoscientists BC, have developed supporting materials for registrants.
The supporting materials are:
- An FAQ guidance document that includes information on topics such as what to do if a reprisal is taken against you, if a reprisal can be prevented, and the potential penalties for taking a reprisal under the PGA: Section 103 No Reprisals: Frequently Asked Questions.
- A chart with questions that registrants can use to determine if someone has taken a reprisal against them: Section 103 Reprisal Framework: Has someone taken a reprisal against you?
All registrants and registrant firms of Engineers and Geoscientists BC have a duty to report, as set out in the PGA and the Engineers and Geoscientists BC Code of Ethics. Registrants and registrant firms must report situations where the regulated practice by another registrant or firm may pose a risk of significant harm to the environment or to the health or safety of the public, or where another registrant or firm is engaged in practices or has made decisions that are illegal or unethical.
Section 103 of the PGA protects registrants against reprisals if they make a report. Registrants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with this information.
